Before and After Treatment
Before Your Treatment Print E-mail
There are some practicalities that are worth considering before you arrive for your treatment to ensure that you are comfortable and get the best out of the session. You will also be advised as to aftercare following your session.

  • Wear loose fitting clothing such as sportswear. A tracksuit with an elasticated waist band is ideal. Tight jeans are not. The therapist is very happy to work directly on skin if you feel comfortable enough to undress otherwise please try to wear a thin layer under your shirt and garments that can be easily loosened. Fastenings on ladies bras can get in the way of certain points we need to work on so you may be asked if it is okay to work underneath these or if necessary undo the garment.
  • When treating a minor a parent or guardian is required to stay in the room at all times
  • We may want to inform your GP that you have had Bowen Therapy. We will only do this with your express permission and if you would rather we did not then that wish will always be respected.
  • Arrive promptly
  • Anyone seemingly under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be treated.

Aftercare Print E-mail
There are a few things to consider after your session and following the advice given here will ensure that you optimise the results of the work put into you.

Water - it is essential that you drink plenty of water after your session. After a session of Bowen therapy the body will start to increase blood supply to nerve endings. The movement of lymph around the body will also be affected. The effective functioning of these systems is reliant upon water intake. We know we should be drinking around 2 litres a day and remember, drinking it at intervals so that the body uses it efficiently is much better than gulping it down in 1 or 2 sittings so that the body eliminates it as waste (urine).

Walk - It's important to assist the lymphatic system by moving around and helping to eliminate waste products and toxins from the body. After treatment get up and move around every 20 mins or so for the next day. Walk around your desk at work or climb the stairs at home but try not to remain in the same position for too long.

Week - The recommended time between treatments is 5-10 days with a week being optimum. There are exceptions to this rule for instance re-injury, accidents, making a client with a degenerative condition or one who is terminally ill comfortable, backache during pregnancey. These are circumstances under which we could treat within that week depending upon the individual.

How Will I Feel? Print E-mail

Many clients notice a difference in their symptoms immediately and we all naturally want these to be positive changes leading to a quick recovery however, the path to recovery is not always straightforward. You may not notice anything immediately or even for a while afterwards.

You may feel tired and drained and experience cold-like symptoms. You may experience an initial increase in discomfort in the affected areas or even symptoms in other areas that have not been treated. As well as the physical, the emotional state may alter. In these instances it is important to remember that your body is making changes and trying to restore things to how they should be. Symptoms often worsen before they improve.

Observe these changes and remember them for your next treatment so that we can measure your progress.
