Bowen is one of the fastest growing therapies in holistic health practice todayused increasingly by Physiotherapists and Chiropractors due to rapid results on the body. The technique uses light touch to encourage the body to realign itself and restore structural integrity without the use of massage, manipulation or adjustment. The therapist uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body making rolling type movements over muscles, tendons and fascia creating disturbance and prompting the brain to take the necessary action to facilitate healing. There are regular breaks of between 2-5 minutes between sets of moves to allow the brain and the nervous system to absorb the treatment and for the work to take effect.

An initial consultation to get a picture of a clients health is an important first step and so the first treatment takes about an hour. We then ask the client to make themselves comfortable on a treatment couch. We ask that you wear comfortable clothing with a loose or elasticated waistband. We can work through light clothing such as shirts if you prefer not to remove them otherwise we work in direct contact with skin. The object is to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. The bodywork itself can take between 20-45 minutes depending on the individual requirement. We do not massage or use oils during treatment. |

Neurological impulses are transmitted to the brain when the therapist makesthe moves. These impulses create surges of energy which increase blood and lymph flow and relieve muscle tension.
Several theories have been published about connections between the technique and the response resulting from communication between the brain and nervous system and also the effect on the fascia – the connective tissue that supports and surrounds muscle and organs. Research continues around these theories and volunteer groups are set up and monitored to further our knowledge of using Bowen for specific ailments. |

2-3 treatments will often be all that is required but everybody is different. Many people will experience immediate relief but others are just as likely to take days or weeks to achieve long lasting relief. People are advised to try 3 sessions initially, ideally equally spaced with 5-10 days between treatments. This should enable the therapist to work with the client in observing changes in the body and decide what if any treatment is required going forward. |
